KLSG Profile

Our development and usability labs here at KLSG reflect the flexible, promethean traits we try to embody in our work.

As you walk in...Here's the look of our lab as you initially walk in.  Down the right side are programmer and researcher workstations.  Behind the gray adjustable partition (center), is a large flat panel display used for teleconferencing and demonstrations, see the picture immediately below.  To the left (out of frame) are two Levity workstations for programming and collaboration work--see the Levity Towers photo. Video conferencing on our big screen plasma display Conferencing at the big screen...Two video conferencing systems are available in our lab using our 44" (horizontal) plasma flat panel.  If you look closely, you'll see a Polycom conference currently in progress.  Look even closer and you'll see several small gray speakers surrounding the screen.  These speakers provide surround sound for our multimedia system and are integrated into the same system as the flat panel.
Levity Towers...The Levity Stations can be adjusted to move the desktop and monitor to sit as low as 12 inches (30 cm) off the floor or as high as 4 feet (120 cm).  The monitor shown here is one of the many flat panel displays used throughout our facilities.  Also, the Aeron Chair show here are provided at all workstations.  This and other machines are used to develop, test, and demonstrate applications and research works being conducted here at KLSG. Display case of handheld tools for research and development work Handheld display case...As part of our research, we are exploring the use of alternative delivery devices for conducting e-Learning and knowledge management operations.  This case contains a variety of PDAs, handhelds, pocket PCs, and tablet PCs that were assembled in order to examine the viability of these delivery methods as well as to test the applications being developed by other groups here at NCSA.
